Sick of it All

I'm sick of everything...sick of our stupid me culture...everyone complains about how they don't make enough money, and yet if they were in charge they would do things exactly the same way because we all love money just as much as the people who already have it...they'd pay their employees as little as possible and just keep gettin' as much as you can as long as you can 'cause we got to have our stuff, no one's taking our stuff away...and the thing of it is I only care about myself and I'm sick of that too...I'm sick of the absence of community...human beings aren't meant to live in separate houses all by ourselves so nobody can judge them...has that become the American dream? I'm sick of having to be the same as every one else...everyone needs a car to go to work, to pay for a roof over their head, and hopefully to have a house to go to where hopefully no one will give them any guff...well guess what? I don't care about that stuff...I'm an entertainer, I want to sing songs and make people laugh...that's it! A real community has a place for every different kind of person...not our culture though...I have to go to work at a crappy job for some faceless corporation that cares more about the customer's money than the customer...why aren't you up-selling you pee-on! Maybe it's because I hate, as a customer, being up-sold to...the only reason you can get away with it is because every store does it and most people don't realize how much they hate it...big giant faceless corporations don't judge you, they only want your money...they don't care how you are doing...so go ahead and steal some straws...take a few extra packets of sugar...all the stuff that they don't keep behind the counter is free to you...In place of doing things the right way they'll just raise the prices a bit...but you wont care as long as they don't judge you! I bet the ancient Romans thought life would always be that good...but it took over a thousand years for man to reinvent concrete and running water...go to Papua New Guinea and see how much cargo they have...But they have community they make the right kind of judgments about each other...we try to avoid being judged in the proper way and end up condemning everyone else with the wrong kind of judgments, and I'm sick of it!

I've written my reply to your question on my blog. I must say this is an interesting post. It seems that what you are looking for is financial freedom, a concept in which you are free from the dependancy of money. I too wish to achieve such a concept and hopefully people like yourself can also join in the dream once its realized! Peace! Hand.

Man... I guess that proves your point. I followed "Inquisitive Hand" looking for his reply and it's all about money-all about the "upsell." Ironic at least.
I know where you're coming from. Somehow the blogosphere has become something of a community, in the vacuum of a flesh & blood community. Our family spent a long time thinking about checking out of the U.S. (for New Zealand, probably), and not necessarily for political reasons. I think a bit of it was this tension of lack of community combined (or increased) by the speed of life. I'm not sure what to do about it. Too much tension produces this utopian view of a new system - the kind of stuff that made Marx do his worst.
I think you see evidence of it in the gas prices. Fuel has increased about 300% in the last couple years and we still buy it at the same rate. Why? Because commuting/driving has become a utility. It's something essential. It's something that is evidence of our distance from work, church, family and community. We connect ourselves with phones, vehicles and, yes, blogs, in the absence of real proximity and openess.
Perhaps the corporate culture is a response to that. I can go anywhere and see a Wal-Mart (or Dunkin' Donuts)- just like the one at home. And they all treat me the same.... at least it's familiar.

Wow...I knew when I wrote this I was firing on all cylinders. I think this is my first post were I said exactly what I wanted to say exactly the way I wanted to say it. Thanks everyone for the comments

Joe, I commpletly agree that the corparate culture is a response to the culture in general...in fact I wasn't even complaining about my job, I like my job, I even like my manager...alot, in fact He talking to his boss about getting me a raise. I just hate all the gnat straining, camel swallowing that happens which makes it crappy, and the raise doesn't change that...well at least I'm going to pretend that I have the integrity to not let it change.

Yes Chad, it is a stupid mindless job, but I don't mind it so much. Like I said it's the culture at large not Dunkin' Donuts.

Hand...
If I throw a rock at a grizzly bear and it dies right after can I assume that I killed the bear with a rock? I don't disagree with the things you listed but I think you are leaving out something very big.
